rAg karavo te mAro svabhAv nathI tem ja sharIrane ke jaD karmane pariNamAvavAno paN mAro svabhAv
nathI. men vikAr karIne jaDakarmane bAndhyun–evI jenI mAnyatA chhe tenI draShTi mithyA chhe, vikArathI judo mAro
gnAnasvabhAv chhe em te jANato nathI.
agnAnI jIv ‘hun gnAnasvabhAv chhun’ evI samajaN chUkIne, agnAnabhAve bahu to vikArano kartA thAy, paN

jaDakarmanI jem sharIr, bhAShA, makAn vagereno kartA paN AtmA kadI thaI shakato nathI.

“सादं सुहं, तं वेदावेदि भुंजावेदि त्ति सादावेदणीयं। असादं दुक्खं, तं वेदावेदि त्ति असादावेदणीयं। एत्थ
चोदओ भणदि–जदि सुह–दुक्खाइं कम्मेहिंतो होंति, तो कम्मेसु विणट्ठेसु सुह–दुक्खवज्जएण जीवेण होदव्वं,
सुहदुक्खणिबं धणकम्माभावा। सुह–दुक्खविवज्जिओ चेव होदि त्ति चे ण, जीवदव्वस्स णिस्सहावत्तादो अभावप्पसंगा।
अह जइ दुक्खमेव कम्मजणियं, तो सादावेदणीय–कम्माभावो होज्ज, तरस फलाभावादो त्ति?
एत्थ परिहारो उच्चदे? तं जहा–जं किं पि दुक्खंणाम तं असादावेदणीयादो होदि, तस्स जीवसरूवत्ताभावा।
भावे वा खीणकम्माण पि दुक्खेण होदव्वं, णाण–द्रसणाणमिव कम्मविणासे विणासाभावा। सुहं पुण ण कम्मादो
उप्पज्जदि, तस्स जीवसहावत्तादो फलाभावा। ण सादावेदणीयाभावो वि, दुख्खुवसमहेउसुदव्वसंपादणे तस्स
वावारादो। एवं संते सादा–वेदणीयस्स पोग्गलविवाइतं होइ त्ति णासंकणिज्जं, दुक्खुव–समेणुप्पण्ण सुवत्थियकणस्स
दुक्खाविणाभाविस्स उवयारेणेव लद्ध–सुहसण्णस्स जीवादो अपुधमूदस्स हेदुत्तणेण सुत्ते तस्स जीवविवा
इत्तसुहहेदुत्ताणमुवदेसादो। तो वि जीव–पोग्गलविवाइत्तं सादावेदणीयस्स पावेदि त्ति चे ण, इठ्ठत्तादो। तहोवएसो
णत्थि त्ति चे ण, जीवस्स अत्थित्तण्णाहाणुववत्तीदो तहोवदेसत्थित्तसिद्धीए। ण च सुह–दुक्खहेउदव्वसं पादयमण्णं
कम्ममत्थि त्ति अणुवलंभादो।’
[हिंदी अर्थ]
“साता यह नाम सुखका है, उस सुख को जो वेदन कराता है, अर्थात् भोग कराता है, वह सातावेदनीय
कर्म है। असाता नाम दुखका है, उसे जो वेदन या अनुभवन कराता है उसे असातावेदनीय कर्म कहते हैं।
शंका–यहांपर शंकाकार कहता है कि यदि सुख और दुख कर्मो से होते है तो कर्मो के विनष्ट हो जाने पर
जीव को सुख और दुखसे रहित हो जाना चाहिये, क्योंकि उसके सुख और दुखके कारणभूत कर्मोका अभाव हो
गया है। यदि कहा जाय कि कर्मोंके नष्ट हो जाने पर जीव सुखसे और दुखसे रहित ही हो जाता हैं, सो कह
नहीं सकते, क्योंकि, जीवद्रव्य के निःस्वभाव हो जानेसे अभावका प्रसंग प्राप्त होता हैों अथवा, यदि दुखको ही
कर्मजनित माना जाय तो सातावेदनीयकर्म का अभाव प्राप्त होगा, क्योंकि, फिर उसका कोई फल नहीं रहता हैं?
समाधान–यहाँपर उपर्युक्त आशंका का परिहार करते हैं। वह इस प्रकर है–दुःख नाम की जो कोई भी
वस्तु हैं वह असातावेदनीय कर्म के उदय से होती है, क्योंकि, वह जीव का स्वरूप नहीं है। यदि जीव का स्वरूप
माना जाय तो क्षीणकर्मा अर्थात् कर्मरहित जीवों के भी दुःख होना चाहिए, क्योंकि, ज्ञान और दर्शन के समान कर्म
के विनाश होने पर दुःख का विनाश नहीं होगा। किन्तु सुख कर्म से नहीं होता है, क्योंकि, वह जीव का स्वभाव
है, और इसलिये वह कर्म का फल नही है। सुख को जीव का स्वभाव मानने पर सातावेदनीय कर्म का अभाव भी
प्राप्त नहीं होता, क्योंकि, दुःख–उपशमन के कारणभूत सुद्रव्यों के सम्पादन में सातावेदनीय कर्म का व्यापार होता
है। इस व्यवस्था के मानने पर सातावेदनीय प्रकृति के पुद्गलविपाकित्व प्राप्त होगा, ऐसी भी आशंका नहीं करना
चाहिये, क्योंकि दुःख के उपशम से उत्पन्न हुए, दुःख के अविनाभावी उपचार से ही सुखसंज्ञा को प्राप्त और जीव
से अपृथग्भूत ऐसे स्वास्थ्य के कणका हेतु होने से सूत्र में सातावेदनीय कर्म के जीवविपाकित्व का और सुख–
हेतुत्व का उपदेश दिया गया है। यदि कहा जाय कि उपर्व्युंक्त व्यवस्थानुसार तो साता वेदनीय कर्म के
जीवविपाकीपना और पुद्गलविपाकीपना प्राप्त होता है, सो भी कोई दोष नहीं, क्योंकि, यह बात हमें इष्ट हैं। यदि
कहा जाये कि उक्त प्रकार का उपदेश प्राप्त नहीं हैं, सो भी नहीं, क्योंकि, जीव का अस्तित्व अन्यथा बन नहीं
सकता है, इसलिए उस प्रकार के उपदेश के अस्तित्व की सिद्धि हो जाती है। सुख और दुःख के कारणभूत द्रव्यों
का सम्पादन करनेवाला दूसरा कोई कर्म नहीं है, क्योंकि वैसा कोई कर्म पाया नहीं जाता।”
